Greenlee Primary School

April News

 Greenlee Primary School has been busy with countless activities since the Christmas Holiday.  In March, we celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday with a visit from Mitchell High School Drama Club and a breakfast of green eggs and ham.  The Kiwanis Club sponsored Reading is Fundamental for our first graders where each child received three free books.  Buster the Bus visited to share safety tips on riding the school bus.  Kindergarten will perform their music program on April 19.  Kindergarten registration is Friday, April 27 at 9:00 and 12:00. Our 2nd graders will perform the Wizard of Oz on May 3rd at 6:30 PM.   May 7th at 6:30 PM is Kindergarten Parent Night where parents will have orientation and  enjoy a meal.

 

May News

 On Friday, April 27th our Kindergarten registration was a huge success. We enrolled 98 new students. Parent night for upcoming Kindergarten parents will be at Greenlee on Monday night, May 7th at 6:00 in the cafeteria. This will be a time to ask questions and meet all of your child’s teachers. Mayland Community College’s 15th annual Young Authors Celebration was held on Sunday, April 29th from 2:00-4:00. Storyteller Doug Elliott presented a lively collection of tales, legends and harmonica songs. Dr. Gloria Houston and her mother Ruthie helped hand out the awards and medals. Greenlee winners were Jacob Carroll, Elaina Slagle and Cole Burleson.

Mitchell High School 

   Teams Travel to State Playoffs!       

      As spring sports came to a close at Mitchell High School, two teams advanced to the state playoffs.  For the first time in more than a dozen years, the baseball team advanced to the first round in the playoff games in West Henderson.  Additionally, for the first time in school history our golf team traveled to Pinehurst to compete in the state 2A playoffs in golf.  Congratulations to both these teams on their success and hard work!     

                                                                                

An “Unforgettable” Prom

 Mitchell High’s Prom 2007 was held at the Hampshire Building in Spruce Pine on May 5th, 2007.  Students danced until midnight with music provided by Sid the Surf. Summer Fleener and Matt McKinney were crowned Prom King and Queen .
