MCS SUMMER READING PLAN

Helping your child become and improve as a reader is one of the most important things that you can do to help your child to succeed in school and in life.  The importance of reading simply cannot be overstated.  Reading helps children of all ages in all school subjects and is the key to lifelong learning.  When children do not read throughout the summer many experience what has become known as a “Summer Reading Loss”.  In order to help students not experience a reading loss and to promote reading and good lifelong skills, the faculty and staff have designed a plan. The plan is loose enough so that students can enjoy readings and selections of their choice, but strict enough to help ensure that all children read every day.  The plan is simple: Every child reads or is read to every day for at least fifteen to twenty minutes.

Each School, throughout the summer, will open its library in order for parents and students to choose and select books for check out.  Days and times will vary with each school, but will include times beyond the traditional working hours.  As well, our local regional libraries will be open and staffed to help identify good reading choices for all readers and will host story hours at each branch.

Please check out the school links to the left for more great reading ideas!
