Mitchell County Schools 2020 Reopening Survey
Mitchell County Schools 2020 Reopening Survey

North Carolina state education and health officials have put forward several options for how public schools will reopen in August. We have not been told yet under which plan we will be starting, but hope to have that information within the next few weeks. We are planning for all possibilities. The list of possibilities is broadly divided into the following categories:

Plan A: All students in school at the same time. Schools will open as normal with minimal social distancing at 100% capacity. This plan will be implemented if COVID-19 metrics are stable or move in a positive directions.

Plan B: Schools will open with moderate social distancing and will be required to operate with no more than 50% of building capacity in attendance at a time. This plan will be implemented if COVID-19 metrics worsen and it is determined that additional restrictions are necessary.

Plan C: Schools will suspend in-person classes and will only operate remote learning for all students. This plan will be implemented if COVID-19 metrics worsen significantly.

We are also exploring the possibility of opening a virtual school for students. Students enrolled in this school would not attend school in the building, but would be taught by Mitchell County Teachers remotely. There would be daily requirements for instruction and attendance and grades would be given as if students were in the regular classroom.

Note: Per the governor, please know that face masks will not be mandatory when we return to school. Students and staff will have the option of wearing them, but we will respect the decisions of those who choose to wear them and those who do not.
