Parent Involvement

While there are multiple opportunities for parents to participate in the education of their children in our district, there is also a need for parents of our students with limited English to have opportunities beyond those provided to all parents.

Language is often a barrier to participation.  Therefore, in our district, schools are endeavoring to have two ESL Parent Nights each year.  The topics for these meetings are determined by the needs of the parents.  Parents provide information by means of surveys and direct contact from teachers to identify areas they would like to explore.

ESL PARENT NIGHT WILL BE HELD ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 5TH, 2009 AT HARRIS MIDDLE SCHOOL AUDITORIUM.

Food and refreshments are always a part of any of our ESL Parent meetings.  The students frequently perform or demonstrate something they have learned.  This provides parents with an opportunity to see firsthand what their children are learning in school.

Parents meet their children’s teachers and other school officials and have a chance to ask questions.  An interpreter is always present at these meetings.
