Booster Club Meeting Highlights
Minutes of meeting 07/21/08
KEY POINTS OF THE MEETING:

The meeting was opened
at
6:05
p.m.
The
minutes from the 5-15-08 meeting were approved later in the
meeting.
Financial
Report:
Treasurer Sallie Fero was not present. No balance officially
reported. A.B.C. did receive a donation of $50.00 to be deposited.
Old
Business:
·
Student
Interest Survey: tabled until the next meeting.
·
“Focus on
Your Teenager’s Future” – This was the focus of the meeting, with
guidance counselors present.

A date of December 2nd or 4th is projected
for the event and will be confirmed. Matt Hollifield will call
several key college reps to check availability for either date.
(A copy of the detailed school calendar is entered into the
minutes.)

It was suggested that the event begin in the cafeteria.

A.B.C. representatives will coordinate with National Honor Society
students and Girl Scouts as greeters welcoming parents and
students, as well as assisting reps providing booths and
workshops.

A.B.C. will underwrite expense of the postage and printing of the
mailout and printed matter used for the event. (A copy of
previous expenses is entered into the minutes as an estimate.)

A.B.C. will underwrite expense and will provide a reception/light
meal for presenters. Suggestions based on the previous reception
included soup, salad, and dessert.

It was suggested that a broader range of colleges and further
education opportunities be represented at the event, including
local business willing to offer internships.

Katrina
Plato presented additional information about the Poetix seminars.
She will ask Melora Cook to define the groups of students for whom
the teacher would be provided and to determine whether students
during both fall and spring semesters be included. A.B.C. hopes
that all sophomore English students can be included if the expense
is contained. Katrina will look into possibilities of having a
Poetix “Café” at Blue Moon Bookstore at the end of the course so
students can read their works for others in a public forum. Katrina
affirmed that the Poetix presenter includes materials in the quoted
costs.
New Business: I
Ideas for future student events/needs were discussed including:

Broadening
the clubs available for student participation. New faculty may
rejuvenate Science Olympiad, Debate Club, etc.
·
Clarification was made that students can belong to more than two
clubs.
·
A.B.C.
will assist in getting information about each club, the sponsor’s
name, and the club function. This information can then be printed
and circulated to students.
The
meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m. The date/time for the next
meeting was not finalized at the time of adjournment.
