Harris Middle School Stem Teacher, Mr. Dan Hopson conducted a special service project known as ARISS. ARISS lets students worldwide experience the excitement of talking directly with crew members of the International Space Station. This program is managed by an international consortium of amateur radio organizations and space agencies including National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the USA.
This program inspires students to pursue interests in careers in science, technology, engineering and math, while engaging them with radio science technology through amateur radio. Because of this, students were be able to communicate through HAM radio with crew members of the International Space while asking specific questions.
This opportunity was provided by a grant that Mr. Hopson applied for several months ago then began building antennas to adapt to this event.
Mr. Hopson was also recognized as Harris Middle School “Teacher of the Year,” which was truly well deserved!
