Mitchell County Schools

Mitchell County Schools was notified late this afternoon by Mitchell County Health Department that a student at Mitchell High School has been diagnosed with pertussis (whooping cough). If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Mitchell County Health Department or Mitchell High School on Monday.

Sports Physicals for the 2024-25 school year will be given on Thursday, May 9 at Mitchell High School. If you are planning on participating in a middle or high school sport, this is a great opportunity to get your required physical!

We believe the issue with the Apple App Store and our MCS app has been resolved. You can now search for and download the MCS app again. If you don't have it, we encourage you to download it. It's FREE and it provides beneficial information from all our schools.

It has come to our attention that our MCS app on the app store is no longer available for download. We are contacting the company and resolving the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience while we figure it out!

SUN Bucks: A new food assistance program for school children. Starting this summer, families that qualify can expect to receive $120 per eligible child in grocery-buying benefits on a debit-like card. These benefits can be used to purchase food at retailers that accept EBT, including most major grocery stores. Visit the SUN Bucks webpage at www.ncdhhs.gov/sunbucks to learn more. IMPORTANT: Some families will get benefits automatically sent to the mailing address in their child’s school record. Update your child’s mailing address by contacting your child’s school. Kindergarten Registration is April 11th! If your child will attend kindergarten next year, please attend registration. If you are unable to attend, please contact the school to schedule a time to register. Pre-K application information will be coming soon.

Mitchell High School will hold a Parent Night for all upcoming freshman and parents on Monday, March 18 at 6:00pm. Information about high school classes and registration will be shared.

Our calendar for the 2024-25 school year has been approved by the Board of Education. You can always find an updated calendar on our website as changes are made due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. The Mayland Early College calendar will be released soon.

Mitchell County Schools will be closed today, Friday, March 1st. Mixed precipitation is falling in areas of the county and is forecast to continue in areas throughout the morning. This will be a Schedule 2 Workday for staff.

This is a reminder that applications for Mayland Early College High School are due March 1, 2024. Interested 8th grade students should check in with the middle school guidance counselor for more information or call 766-2590 to speak with a staff member at MEC.

March Calendar Reminders

Mitchell County Schools is thrilled to announce that our new school Mitchell Elementary/Mitchell Middle will be opening in August 2024! We are thankful to Vannoy, Cope Architecture, and all of the sub-contractors for working tirelessly to make this possible. An August move in will be much smoother for our students and staff. The state-of-the-art facilities will be a wonderful place for our students to thrive and for our staff to work. We will keep everyone posted as we prepare for the opening in August. Thank you for your patience and support as we have worked to bring Mitchell County a first-class new school. Go Miners!

Calendar Reminder

Due to the current weather conditions across the county, Mitchell County Schools will operate on a TWO HOUR DELAY today, Tuesday, February 13, 2024. We will continue to monitor conditions. If further changes to our schedule are necessary, that decision will be made by 7:30am.
