We are excited about the upcoming school year and the changes and opportunities that it will bring for our students. As usual, kindergarten will have a staggered entry based on last name to help them become acclimated to school. Also, we will have a staggered entry based on grade level for Mitchell Elementary and Mitchell Middle this year. We hope this will be better for students to become familiar with the building and parents to become familiar with drop-off/pick-up procedures. Mitchell High School and Mayland Early College will have a regular schedule for all students beginning the first day of school. Soccer Update! There will be no middle school boys and girls pickup games tonight due to rain. Any boy in 6th-8th grades that is interested in soccer, please meet Monday at the Harris field 6:30. You must have a current sports physical on file to participate.

Attention Mitchell County Schools Retired Personnel! We would like to invite all retired personnel from Mitchell County Schools to a special grand opening and ribbon cutting for Mitchell Elementary School and Mitchell Middle School. This will be held on Thursday, August 8th at 5:30pm, with dinner following the opening celebration. Mitchell County Schools was notified late this afternoon by Mitchell County Health Department that a student at Mitchell High School has been diagnosed with pertussis (whooping cough). If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Mitchell County Health Department or Mitchell High School on Monday.

SUN Bucks: A new food assistance program for school children. Starting this summer, families that qualify can expect to receive $120 per eligible child in grocery-buying benefits on a debit-like card. These benefits can be used to purchase food at retailers that accept EBT, including most major grocery stores. Visit the SUN Bucks webpage at www.ncdhhs.gov/sunbucks to learn more. IMPORTANT: Some families will get benefits automatically sent to the mailing address in their child’s school record. Update your child’s mailing address by contacting your child’s school. March Calendar Reminders

Mitchell County Schools is thrilled to announce that our new school Mitchell Elementary/Mitchell Middle will be opening in August 2024! We are thankful to Vannoy, Cope Architecture, and all of the sub-contractors for working tirelessly to make this possible. An August move in will be much smoother for our students and staff. The state-of-the-art facilities will be a wonderful place for our students to thrive and for our staff to work. We will keep everyone posted as we prepare for the opening in August. Thank you for your patience and support as we have worked to bring Mitchell County a first-class new school. Go Miners!

Due to the current weather conditions across the county, Mitchell County Schools will operate on a TWO HOUR DELAY today, Tuesday, February 13, 2024. We will continue to monitor conditions. If further changes to our schedule are necessary, that decision will be made by 7:30am.
