A group of 30 students took part in the CTE tour of the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College Woodfin campus on February 8th. The students visited the emergency services campus to receive information about courses and training from AB-Tech instructors in law enforcement, firefighting, and EMS. The students even had the opportunity to hear from a Mitchell High School graduate, APD Officer Wynkoop, who is currently enrolled in training at the facility. After learning about the programs offered, the students were able to tour the facilities and take part in hands-on training with the instructors. The AB Tech campus covers 30 acres and includes classrooms, burn buildings, a driving track, and other structures for hands-on emergency training. The visit gave the students a real-world look at these careers and training opportunities and provided them with an opportunity to learn more about a career they want to pursue.

On January 24, 2024, the Animal Science 2 Honors Food Animal class at Mitchell High School had the opportunity to observe how a mobile veterinary service works. The students observed a mobile veterinarian visit by Dr. Jornigan with Foothills Mobile Veterinary Service. Dr. Jornigan came to Mitchell High School to do ultrasounds on two FFA goats. Cadee Boone, the owner of the goats, brought two of the goats she has for goat shows to the MHS Barn so that they could undergo a pregnancy ultrasound check. Fortunately, both goats were indeed pregnant, and one of the goats was pregnant with twins. This opportunity allowed students to learn more about the advancements in technology and services provided by vets for livestock and other animals, as well as about being a veterinarian. Mr. Huggins and Mitchell High CTE would like to thank Dr. Jornigan for this learning opportunity.
